TURBOVET contains Terbinafine HCL, an anti-fungal medication approved by the FDA. Terbinafine is an allylamine antifungal agent which acts by inhibiting squalene monooxygenase, thus blocking the biosynthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes but its mechanism for inhibiting ergosterol is different from other azole antifungals.
Terbinafine eliminates fungus infections by attacking the fungal spores at their source. It causes the cell walls of the spores to weaken preventing the fungal spores from reproducing and attaching property. As a result the fungus dies cell by cell and the infection goes away. It is used to treat fingernail or toenail fungal infections. It is the most common drug prescribed to treat both fungal infections of the nails and candida infections.
